    Divorce Pro Se

This is an off topic questions but I thought I would ask since the members here have a lot of knowledge on common life situations. I live in Virginia (Fairfax County) and would like to file for a divorce pro se. I don't have any children with my husband and all of our property is seperate so that should make it easier and also it would be an uncontested divorce. My question is does anyone know of any sites I can go to that would give me information on how to create a divorce complaint? The county has referred me to go to the Law Library but before I request the day off of work to make it during their business hours I thought I would ask if anyone else might know where else I could look to create a complaint.

Thank you for your replies and comments in advance.

Office Depot sells a divorce packet with the right documents in it for your area........

Depending on your state you and spouse can fill out a "no contest" divorce, file it with the Courthouse, and the judge will grant it as long as no legal issues come up....

I did one for my roommate, cost her $25.00 for the filing fee and whatever the packet cost.......

Signed by the judge and recorded.........

Don't have to have a lawyer, etc..........

Check with your local courthouse and see if you can file a pro se divorce in your state/county..................

    Hope this helps...........

I actually did my divorce this way and I have 2 kids.

      I used http://www.completecase.com/

Seemed pretty complete (at least I thought) until I got to the County Clerk's office.

make sure you know someone at the Clerk's office that can organize your filing in the proper order, and also make sure you use THEIR (the courts) paper work to file the petition.

After my friend at the clerk of court's looked over it all and helped me organize it, it seemed to go through just fine. NOW one thing that made time stand still was when we went before the Judge. He said....Hmmmmmmm...I havent seen anyone file this way in YEARS...let me look this over and read it.....

Well he looked it over and had a couple questions that I had to walk up to the Seat and dot an "I" and cross a "T".....but he looked at us both, and said you both agree to this? and said...fine....Done. next

Rob brought up a very good point.

I have a GF who's doing the very same thing. Pro Se divorce in Michigan. She's getting her documents from the Court House directly so she'll have the proper documents needed.

The Court Clerk gave her several references for info on filling out the Forms as well. GF was told their Court there does not accept all "packets" forms that people have purchased. The Forms aren't unique or anything, but they do have to be properly formatted and completed.

Maybe your Court Clerk can give you some equally valuable tips as well.

          Nolo's BK books are excellent.

Might want to try there for tips:

Thank you all for your help!!!!! I'm so glad I asked because I could not figure out any of this information on my own.
I did try to ask the staff at the county office on how I could create this complaint but the lady told me that Virginia law prohibits them from recommending any forms or legal advice.

They did give me copies of the two forms that are required for the packet but I'm on my own for the original Complaint and the Complaint for service.
I will be dropping by Office Depot to pick up the divorce paperwork and I will make sure everything is accurate with the clerk before I file.

Thanks again everyone and I will keep you posted on how it works out!
