I have 30,000 in credit card debt. I own a home, mortgage is 125,000 value is around 140,000. I live in Ohio. I recently refinanced and got about 17,000. Thought about filing chapter 13 and using that money to pay of what I would owe in ch.13. I was told that I would have to pay the 17,000 to creditors first and couldnt file and use that as monesy to pay for ch.13. Is that correct? Also is my better option to try to and lower my total credit card debt and use that money to pay it off. How reliable are these companies that negotiate for you and they say they can redusce the debt from around 30,000 to around 22,000. Or is that a scam that takes my money. What should I do for my best option? I have a wife and 2 kids and thought about ch.7 but dont want to lose our posessions or our house. Thanks for your help.
