The founding fathers envisioned a little change about every fifty years, that's why they left people with the means to bring it about.
Please pardon me for standing on my soap box. I am just concerned for my progeny, not really for myself at this point in life.
That time has definitely come... and gone. Please don't pass me off as a kook. That's not my intention. I work for the Government. I see the arrogance of the bureaucrats on a daily basis. You have no idea how bad the elitist menatlity is among these as.....s. Jobs are looked on as entitlements down to the lowest level. A person who takes pride in his work is on a lower level than the person who recieved the job strictly because of gender or race. County beureacrats and their secretaries and tie lickers (llame corbatas in spanish) consider themselves far more than a "cut above" you lower level swine. I see it daily. I can only imagine how entrenched this attitude is among those greedy bastards in Washington.
I remember sitting in the lunchroom one day watching a news report. A young Mexican gentlemen had an honest Hot Dog business downtown with several stands near the Courthouse, A GREAT CONVENIENCE! if you have Jury Duty! He was the type of person who would rather face the daily risks of his own business than work for someone else. My hat always comes off to such great people, they alone are the pushers forward of the American dream, I admire their raw courage. The reporter was interviewing him regarding some petty bureaucratic feax paux he had committed which now was shutting him down. When I tell you it was petty, IT WAS. It did not relate to health issues, it was some minor location/permit issue and it was evident that someone up high had an axe to grind. He was explaing his expenses and how his family depended on his business.
Several County employees were seated around and began to chide how it serves him right. When one of the idiots spouted the line "those people (and i am not hispanic) got all the money", I couldn't maintain silence any longer. I gave these poor, stupid, mind numbed, cucumber for brains saps a little economic lesson. I explained what a great idea it would be to shut him down, as a matter of fact let's shut all the hot dog vendors down and lets harrass all the small businesses and force them out of business. That way all that money that comes in from permits and other fees the Government rapes them for won't be there to pay your lazy asses. And then when that happens then we'll be shut down! I then explained to these sheep that the ghetto concept of "all the money" is a false one. That wealth is created, ideas and inventions create more wealth, the little hot dog guy who borrowed, saved and worked seven days stocking, picking up, buying and is taking a great risk to be in the American game creates more wealth in his little toe than most of them would create in their whole lives.
Well, the room fell silent for the remaining time as the intellectual vacuum took hold. I spent my lunch hour in peace and didn't have to hear the usual politically correct pscycho babble news analysis. i am rather known for offending when necessary and i have no problem with that. I enjoy my job and have no desire to be promoted to a paper pusher.
If you think that's silly of me then I'll tell you about the nite I took some of the cleaning people (these are $16.53 an hour starting salary, 12 sick days, 10 annual leave days, health and medical insurance, and a TON of other benefits cleaners) aside. They are mostly recent arrivals from Castros "if he feeds me i'm happy Cuba" and not the older "I have to get a job quickly so that i can buy fruits to sell on the corner and open a fruit stand - corner store - super market - supermarket chain - international food conglomerate" wealth creating Cubans. Every evening this group required a meeting or supervisory intervention because so and so said this or did this or the "committee" has an axe to grind against this person because they simply are not part of the clique. I gave them a great explanation how a Company was perfectly willing to do their cleaning for a sharply reduced rate and that if they continued the Director would likely tire of their silliness and recommend it to the County Comission. I explained to them that i had MANY years here and that our people used to clean the Bath and Lunch Rooms up until '85. I told them that the assigned people had some ongoing daily problems with that so the Director said "no problem we'll attrition a couple of you down and get a private Company" quicker than you can say "hold on..." Now the Lunch Rooms have been spotless for twenty years and only one employee of the County is required to oversee the cleanliness. They didn't listen to the stupid Gringo, but fortunately three of the five are on full pay sick injury, you know, "my back is hurting", "my ankle aches" type stuff that we all live with if we are determined not to "burden the public treasury" as US Grant would say.
And yes, the caucasian employees have their issues to, arrogance and entitlement issues know no bounds, i guarantee you...
