Cell Phone

Following a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, how long would it take to be approved for a cell phone contract? Or, is it all relative to your credit score, etc.

My 341 meeting is 5/5/05. I assume I'll be discharged sometime in July?

Btw, I currently have a cell phone contract through t-mobile, but when my account comes up for renewal this September, I'm worried I won't be renewed. I'm current on it and only missed one payment a couple months ago.

As long as you keep paying them on time, they will probably not close your account. Credit risk is all relative. As far a T-Mobile is concerned (assuming you have made all payments on time), you are a good risk because you have a positive payment with them. And generally speaking, you don't really "renew" your contract, it will simply be a month to month after the initial term expires.

I don't know that they would ask for a deposit even with a new contract. I would think that they mainly look to see if you have written off another cell company. I have Directtv but also got Continental Cable Basic after discharge with no deposit.

Thanks. Sounds like nothing to worry about. =)

As long as you don't terminate your services with TMobile, you'll be fine.

Good Luck!

We just received our case closure notification, and last week I got a new cell phone (Cingular) through Amazon.com, no deposit required or anything else. We've had T-Mobile for 2+ years, but I wanted to switch because everybody else in our family has Cingular service.

This is excellent news and could be helpful to others. I have directtv but also added basic cable (for all the other TV's, we aren't allowed old style antennas, they look rediculous anyway), and they did a check and no deposit was required (Continental Cable).
