Trustees and child support that's been received after filing

    Hello,

I'm a pro se virginia filer and after filing my initial paperwork I received a huge check for the arrears amount that was due from my daughter's father. Will the trustees find out about it? I could really use that check after the bankruptcy is discharged to pay the bills that cannot be discharged. I haven't deposited it yet. I have a hearing at the end of this month to decide whether or not they'll reopen the case because I accidentally missed the creditor meeting last month. Will the trustee take that money? I would understand if they do but if that's the case I will be in the same boat as I am now with the other bills that are to be paid.

Child Support income is generally untouchable in Bankruptcy court; However, let your Trustee know (before cashing the check) and make sure you attend the next Section 341 meeting ASAP.
