Has anyone else heard that from a collector?!

The woman was actually quite pleasant, but I had to laugh out loud at her suggestion, though I thanked her for being so HUMAN with me. My debt, which at last count I had around 85k, I found out today is over 90k (which upset me even further even though the difference isn't HUGE, it's still MORE). Now...

...if I could have a yard sale and raise over 90k, believe me, I'd do it! And that would HAVE to be some kind of garage sale proceeds record!

Maybe if we all went in together and had one HUGE yard sale, we could raise maybe a grand or 2.

Is the whole 90k owed to one creditor? If it is then obviously the woman is mental. I saw that thing on 20/20 about debt and the good collectors use tactics like you described. If you owe 90k to one company and they tell you to have a yard sale well that's just whack.

I had a collector for AT&T/Citicards tell me the same thing. Now the card was already in collections and they refused to accept partial payment, but made an offer of 7500 on a $10K card. He told me to have a yardsale, sell my house, and my car to pay him. When I stopped laughing, I hung up.
