    Pics of kids for fun

Just some old pics of the kids for fun.

I just got an Epson Scanner that does 35mm film and slides
1995 Opening day at National Car Rental Center, we called it Panthers Arena. Little did we know it boded the end of our nice, quiet little town. The same year I75 and the Sawgrass Xway were completed and brought Hialeah north saying "oh what a nice little city, lets invade!"

1997 or 98. The boy in the middle is a lifelong friend of my kids. He lives in Colombia now but still calls. He had a Cop father who was a bit odd and has never really helped him. He is a really good kid who has done well despite adversity.

The townhome in the background was the most fun place we have ever lived but was only 1050 square feet. We bought it for 67,000 in 1994, today it sells for about 220,000.00 if anyone will sell. Most cannot afford to move plus this little development is really a good place to be. VERY QUIET. We sold in '01 for 75,000.00 and wish in some way that we still owned it, what a fun neighborhood. Lot's of small kids there, INTACT families so the kids were controlled, all around a neat point in time.

    1996

1996. Told his grandmother, "you can't spank me I'm cute".

Birthday Chucky Cheese 1995, these two were trouble and both ended up getting spanked by the principal. Both are now "Surfer dudes" getting straight A's and creating no problems whatsoever. At this time both had Saturday "jobs". The boy on the left's parents owned a small pet shop and they got paid a dollar for picking crickets for the lizards in the morning.

Fishing 95 or 96, Christmas day. It was cold by SoFla standards as you can see by his face. He is now our resident "Gunny", a firearms expert getting ready for the Marines.

The oldest in 2005 (In College in Morristown, NJ right now)

The two youngest in Tennessee this last summer, most recent photo

Incidentally that is Lake Tansi in Cumberland County, the kids are looking over the side because the rental boat's prop had no trim and kept getting caught in the weeds.

The tiny Palm at left in the second pic is our "House Tree". A piece of it has been planted at all of our homes since 1984, it is still living today. I love that TH though, the thing was built like a fortress, the windward walls were poured concrete and was all CBS between units (same where i am now). Putting up picks was sometimes a hassle!!!!

I had hyacinths we moved from place to place. They had been given to us as a gift when our girls were born. When we left our last house, I forgot to dig up the hyacinths.

Really nice pics of the kids Robvi3......nice looking boys.......Boys looked like they were having a blast on Cumberland......Bet they are like "water dogs" in the water.......

You guys were talking about moving flowers and trees from place to place..... I'm the same way......

I have potted tree 6'3" tall that I move with me and have since 1976..... it was given to me as a small tiny tree at my dad's funeral. My dad was 6'3" and the tree has never grown any taller......

Also I have a potted palm tree that I have had for 6 years now from mom's funeral. I understand it will grow no taller than she was either... (old wive's tales - but true)....

I have day-lilies and roses that I have moved from place to place over the last 40 years....... I dig them up, pot them, till I get where I'm going to replant them......

It would be like leaving the past behind if I didn't move them too.......

We do funny things, don't we????

Oddly they are beach bums and surfers, they have boards that we buy used from a surf shop in CA. they repair and resell, it's cheaper. They have swam with Rays and Sharks around and like me have been Man-O-War stung on occasion but were laughably reluctant to get in the lake. You know, "Lake Placid" "Croc" and Outer Limits lake monsters.

here they will dive into anything including that lake behind the old house which would jam with Alligators in mating season, all night you'd hear "oink, oink, oink". Alligators make a loud pig sound in season. The association finally put up "no boating, swimming" signs after about the eighth boat sank in that man made hole (it connects to the canal system). the problem with our man mades is that most have a shelf of coral rock and if you swim down and get trapped you are dead.

                  Robivi3,

You boys were "smart" about not jumping in the Cumberland.........few know the "dangers" that lie beneath its green waters......

It has taken many a life of a stranger that didn't know it's "secrets" and some who did, and chanced it anyways........

Your boys are better off surfing and swimming in the ocean than they are in the lake.......

Cumberland Lake and Cumberland River is wall-to-wall rock...... huge ones.....
Many a boy has broke his neck jumping in to swim...... It has underlying currents like the ocean and it "known" to be a bottomless "pit".......

It can be a very dangerous lake for some if not careful on it.....

Great for boating - if your a good boater..... and they try to mark the bad area to keep people out of them.......

My dad has pulled catfish 5' + out of the lake when he'd go fishing.
NO GATORS, but LOTS OF SNAKES....... the bad kind - cottonmouths.....

Many a kid has fell off the "falls" there on Cumberland and there's a place there known as "lover's leap"..... when some couldn't stand this world anymore.... sometimes it days before they ever find them..... sometimes they don't depending on the currents.....

Cumberland Lake is a beautiful place but also a dangerous one.....

Some of the other "man-made" lakes here are great for swimming and boating..... there a whole bunch of them......

                  Cumberland, now that's another place........

Lots of people go to Cumberland, year round..... its one of the busiest places in the summer time here..... EVERYONE HERE AND LOTS OF TOURIST GOES TO THE LAKE...... but the locals that do - do know how dangerous it can be......

So your boys were "smart" of being a little leary of jumping in....... that's a good thing.....

Other than being dangerous to strangers - THE LAKE IS GREAT........

                      Robivi3,
Is Lake Tansi a man-made lake???? If so, yes its a good swimming place....... Cumberland Lake, Cumberland River, and many of its branches are not!!!!

Yeah, ole "Lover's Leap" and its stories...........

Just like the ole "drive-in" movies, sleeping in the park, soda fountains,etc.......

Many of those days are long, gone, bye-bye.........

No, Tansi is a natural lake. Down here it was Tropicaire Drive-in and we still have the drive in at the Swap Shop going FULL BLAST and popular as ever.

Our last neighborhood in Miami went from good to rough in about three years so alot of the old stuff is gone now. The first Carvel in North Dade, the Lums beside the railroad track, Mai Pii Pizza, 99% of all the Jewish and Italian neighbors in North Miami Beach are gone, oh well different days, no neighborhood is stable anymore.

The man mades in SoFla are VERY dangerous. There is alot of shelving, you know flat coral that juts out. Typically kids get caught in the rock shelves or grass then after they die the gators go for them. If you live on a lake here it is wise to pay as most associations do to have the Lake Dr. come out, spread fish eggs and all to keep the grass down. Better also to put a fountain in the middle to aireate the water, you'd be surprised how damned cheap people are when it comes to 5 or 10 bucks a month extra for improving the quality of life for the community and the environment. It's odd I'm the right winger but with all my bleeding heart neighbors I always end up on the left side of the local environment argument. I just let them know the next time we get into a discussion not to lie to me about their "beliefs" because they won't put down the bucks for local, local, local backyard cleanups.

Not one of the bastards has ever shown up at a meeting to protest the new Condo Towers here on the edge of the Glades, they are a disgraceful, repugnant sight visible from the Airboat rides and fishing areas along Hwy 27 now. Disgraceful how we are raping the area and yet every townhome built under Mayor Lomelo had to have a "park, play area and pool". We have a half acre green for ball playing and horsing around, tennis courts and a pool along with the cordoned off slides, monkey bars, etc... in our place. The new ones sport a pool and that is it!!!! Mayor Lomelo's motto, "FIVE STORIES ONLY" and everything had to blend. He even made sure that the retirement community had a golf course, several parks (30,000 residence, it stretches for about two miles) and that the buildings had TONS of trees and the road really winds the whole two miles with speed bumps, he provided a small mini bus system to keep their cars parked and get them to Publix, the Library, City and later the Mall for the morning excercise walks. To hell with those in power now who sacrificed our quality of life for TAX REVENUE. They all claim to be Liberals (Dems at least it's on the ballot that way) out of the sewers they call mouths but in practice they are like most politicians out for money and control. Give me back my corrupt old Mayor who took care of his people (he actually rented a bulldozer years ago and plowed through the Hiatus Road road block when Sunrise had an argument with Plantation over road access. He went to jail, yes, came back, yes, died, yes but God Bless him he loved his City and took care of the residents. Sorry for the soap box but I miss my City... I'm all for property rights, so long as they don't impenge on anyone else. I mean if you strip the trees from your Moutain land the view may be great but your home may also slide into your neighbors living room. It's the 21st century and there have to be limits to abusing land even if you own it outright.
