I've seen it posted somewhere on here before, but now I can't find it. I am just curious, what is the cap on how much unsecured debt can be discharged under chapter 7 new laws? Seems like it was in the 200k-300k range?

I don't think there is a technical limit, however I have heard that if your unsecured debt load is 100k or more that the trustees usually take a very close look and it is likely you will be audited as part of the bankruptcy. I could be wrong though.May 31st, 2007: Petition Filed by my lawyer
July 2nd, 2007: 341 Meeting Held
September 4th, 2007: Discharged and Closed.

There is no cap, per se, but if you have a lot of unsecured debt and don't have a pretty good explanation for how and why the debt was incurred, you could face a possible abuse of system prosecution. If you have unsecured debt in excess of about $150K, the US trustee is probably going to look at your case more closely.

Ahh ok. I could have swore there was some cap/limit I saw posted on here somewhere.Originally posted by lrprn View PostThere is no maximum debt limit set for what can be discharged through Ch 7. Sky's the limit
I was watching someone on tv the other nite, about people that filed bk but there was so much debt it couldn't all be discharged. I should have paid closer attention to the details, but hmmmmm.....
