Types of income?

I had to go to a seminar for work and put the two-night hotel bill on my debit card and got reimbursed the $518.20 on the next paycheck. It showed up as a reimbursement so one of the attorneys I've met with said that will be counted as income. Is that correct? I don't see it that way since I was just putting money back into my account that was already spent.

Also, I applied for Blue Cross/Blue Sheild health insurance and had to write a check for the first month's premium upon application. They cashed the check and then denied me coverage and sent me a refund. That doesn't show up on my paystub but will that count as income, too? Wondering if I should just cash it and hold onto the cash until I need it rather than depositing it.

Comments/Suggestions?

Thanks!

Neither one should be income. Many people here travel for business. None of the reimbursements are income. You're paying bills with after tax income and being reimbursed by your employer for job related expenses.

The hotel stay,........... Save your receipts and expense report to support the "Reimbursement" comment on your pay stub.

Same thing for the insurance. Save the letter of denial to support that deposit into your bank acct.

It isn't income. Even if they forced you to calculate it in some fashion it would look like this:

$518.00 Reimbursement
-$518.00 business expense

= Zero.
