Creditor calls on cell phone-little trick I found...

So, this has probably been used and/or discussed before, but I'll mention it anyway just incase. (I think I'm in the wrong forum, too, so apologies all.)

Firstly, I don't consider myself a conniving (spelling? I'll look it up in a minute!) person, but, that being said...

If you have the type of cell phone that you can choose the ringer for a particular caller - just choose or even record silence as one of the rings if you have that feature. Then label each phone number for each creditor "Don't Answer" and change each one's ring to silence.

When you get a call from a creditor "Don't Answer" will pop up on the screen if you have one and there will be no ring.

You can use your home phone's caller i.d. to add the creditors' numbers to your cell in this fashion.

This is one tiny way in which we are battling through our waiting period until we file our Chapter 13. It's working for us, so I hope it works for someone else.

Again, not proud of this, but you have to do what you have to do.

(Newbie sits here and fears possible backlash!)

    Be well,
    Mrs. H.

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

In a way i do that. Whatever number calls me, i search that number using http://whocalled.us and then, if it is citibank, chase, or whatever, i name it in my cell phone, so when it vibrates, i just look and know who is calling.

I only have a cell phone so all creditors call me on that number

My phone (a Razr) has a feature where you can allow only numbers that are in your phone book ring through. So when all the "past due" calls from the credit cards started coming, those numbers weren't in my phone book, so they'd go straight to voicemail. Very, very few of them ever left a voicemail.

At first, I was just screening by the numbers and had also set up "silent" ringers, as Mrs. H suggests, but they used so many different numbers and called so often I'd have so many missed calls it was difficult to wade through them to see if someone I knew called me.

By that time, I was familiar enough with the numbers they were using that if I was on a call and one of them came through on call waiting I'd ignore it. Wow, I am I glad that phase is over...

Not a cell phone but on my regular phone I have the option of punching in 15 numbers for a distinctive ring. If it doesn't do the special ring we don't answer it. Saves lots of time by not having to check your caller id all day when the phone rings.
