I hurt my back recently and have been going to the chiropractor for adjustments and the treatment seems to be going well. The only question is that it's becoming a considerable expense of several hundred dollars a month for twice weekly visits. Will this be viewed as a valid medical expense? I'm several thousand below Illinois' median income and this just adds to my expenses, though in a painful way.

Chiropractic Bills - Valid Medical Expense?

I can't speak for what will fly with the local trustee's in your area, however in my own personal experience we dealt with the exact same expense. On the schedules for medical, since we don't have insurance we put the cost of the chiropractor there. My DH has extreme back pain and something going on back there that the docs said really only surgery will help, well we can't afford that so he goes to the chiropractor for adjustments. He was also going more than once a week but we cut it down to twice a month for awhile there. Our lawyer told us this was a fair medical cost since we didn't pay for insurance anyway. So he put the expense there at $250 a month, which he said was fair considering we would be paying for a month for insurance. We were also way below the median income level for out state. Our trustee never batted an eye about it, if at all possible try to check with someone in your area and see how it would be best to handle that expense."Try to save money. Someday it may be valuable again." - Anonymous
