I was looking on my credit report and there is a collection account on there from a collection agency. All three credit reports say account was opened in 5/07. The original account was opened in 8/05. It was with Sprint. Sprint does not report to the big 3, even though they look at them when granting service. Should the collection agency be using the 08/05 date or are they able to use the 5/07 since that is when they got the account.

wayne-o, I think there are some methods for dealing with "collection dates" vs "original creditor dates" that are unresolved. You might try looking into the website:
There are a lot of very well educated and experienced folks over there that can help answer this question. The site is a forum (very similar to this one). They don't deal with with bankruptcy, but they do have experience with credit reporting and collections. you will notice that the forum format is quite similar (nearly identical) to the BKforum.com presentation. If you get information, could you report your findings back here? Cheers.
Moderators, If you fell it is improper for me to send a member Guru to another site, please advise me. Sometimes there are better sources of information.
