Ok on top off everything else - my glasses just broke....I can't even read the eye chart -- it's all one big blur to me. If I can't see - I can't work - think I'm changing my last name to MURPHY - cause MURPHY's LAW IS ME!!!

Being completely glasses-dependent myself, I feel your pain!Originally posted by sammieky View PostOk on top off everything else - my glasses just broke....I can't even read the eye chart -- it's all one big blur to me. If I can't see - I can't work -
Where did your glasses break? If it's anywhere on the frames, head to an optical shop. Often they can repair frames for not much money. If it's one of your lenses, then you can have just that one lens remade and keep your current frames.
Now if you ran over your glasses with the car or something like that, then if you live near a university hospital with an opthalmology (eye) clinic or an optometrist school, call and ask them if they have an optical shop. Often they are looking for folks who need glasses to allow their students to practice making glasses. It's a much cheaper alternative than buying classes at places like LensCrafters.
Hope you find a way to get your glasses repaired or replaced very soon!I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

The frame broke and.............horror of all horrors............I realize i need BIFOCALS. Dang I'm getting old. So I need completely new everything! I have vision insurance through work - but it's just the leftover I have to worry about.
Being dependent on glasses is the pits!

We used to have real good eye insurance. Now we have rotten coverage. The only thing that makes it worth while is if we all get an eye exam every year. Otherwise it's useless.
We just went thru EVERYONE going to the eye doctor and everyone except me getting new contacts or glasses. Late June and early July.
Our daughters went got new contacts and eyeglasses in August and Sept of '05. So no new contacts or eyeglasses for either one until their TWO year anniversary in August and Sept.
1 Daughter is like you, Sammie. She can't see the BIG E on the eye chart without correction. She rotates between contacts and eye glasses. We wound up having to buy both their contacts. We'll work on getting their glasses on the insurance company once things settle down after the start of school.
Hubby had to get glasses. First time ever in his life. Son doesn't wear his glasses often. Just for reading mostly. He likes his old frames so he just got new lenses.
Grand total,............ Nearly $1000.
$400 for DD#1's contacts. $300 for DD#2's contacts. A tad over $100 for Son's lenses, and nearly $200 for Hubby's glasses.
I can still see with my glasses so I'm waiting to wear off the financial sting of that little extravaganza. Plus we still have copays on the Girls' glasses to go!Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

Doesn't take much to make me happy anymore lol!!!
Awesome news and congratulations on getting new "eyes". I remember after our dsicharge how excited I was to be able to go get reading glasses, we don't have insurance (can't afford it, job doesn't provide it, and we make slightly over the limit to get it free to me) so I was never able to afford going before. Man I was excited and like a kid in the candy store!
