Keep copies of receipts from stores?

    Hello all.
Should we all keep copies of everyday receipts, such as receipts from 7-11 for food? Chinese food receipts? Supermarket store receipts?
I pay for all of these with my debit card since its the same as cash. I usually toss these receipts in the trash.

Thank you for your help folks.

Since you use your debit card, all these purchases are tracked in your checking account - no need to keep the actual receipts for these small, everyday living expenses.

The advantage of keeping these receipts isn't so much for your bankruptcy as it is for knowing how much you are spending and for what - very necessary information to create a realistic budget for your family to live on before and after filing.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

Is this for personal use only or can the bankruptcy officials request this information?

      Thank you for your help.

Your trustee could ask for printouts of your checking account if:
        - there's suspicion of fraud in your case
        - you spent a large chunk of cash within 90 days of filing
        - your trustee routinely requests printouts back a certain number of months to be included in your filing papers (most don't - ours didn't - your lawyer can tell you whether this will happen in your case)
