    Almost Finished!

I will make my final, 36th payment next month (October) under the old law. It's been a hard 3 years and I can't wait for it to be over. Is there anyone out there in Virginia who has made it through the process? I am wondering how long it usually takes in this state to get the discharge. And I am also wondering if I can quit sending in payments after I send in the last one next month if the discharge is still pending. I have not had any correspondence with my lawyer or trustee since filing three years ago. Should I contact one or both of them now and ask these questions? My trustee is not on the 13 Data Center so I can't get any information there. I am really in the dark about how to close this chapter of my life. Yes, I am more than ready to close it!

Congratulations, bonasi! You've achieved something only 30% of Ch 13 filers manage - you've made it to the finish line! Fantastic!

Ask your lawyer to check with your trustee to see where your payments are right now and what (if anything) is still owed on your account. Don't stop paying until you can confirm that what you owe is paid in full. You don't want to do anything so close to the finish line to get your case in trouble.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

    06/01/06 - Filed Ch 13
    06/28/06 - 341 Meeting
    07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections
10/05/06 - Hearing to resolve 2 trustee objections
01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
    09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made
    08/10/11 - DISCHARGED !

    10/02/11 - CASE CLOSED
Countdown: 60 months paid, 0 months to go

Thank you for this advice. I will call my lawyer and see what he says.
