How much does the average lawyer charge?

Good afternoon folks, I have a question for all of you wonderful people.

I know its broken down into installments, but generally, what is the total amount that lawyers charge for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy?

How much additional do they charge for adversary actions?
    Thank you very much.

There is too much regional variation to give you any sort of generalization. But the average, run of the mill BK-7 (including all court fees and class fees) will cost $1,100 to $2,400

One quoted me $325/hour for adversary actions. I have no idea if that is normal or not, and I did not hire that one, and dont yet know what mine charges for "extra services" but I sure HOPE I don't need him for any extra stuff!

I interviewed with about 6 attorneys. Prices ranged from $975 to $4000. I hired the guy for $1275.

I just signed to pay $1,500.00 + $299.00 filing fee...seemed pretty average. I am in a very borderline 7/13 situation, so if I may add a question to your post, will I have to pay more if I need to convert to a 13 since we are planning to file a 7? Also, if I were to get a judgement against me between now and when I file (in 3 months), will the attorney help me out without too many additional fees? I suppose I should just ask my attorney, but I'll take any opinions here since they're usually just as or more helpful.
        Thanks,
        Lefty

If any adversary action is taken, how many hours generally will a lawyer charge?
          Thank you for your help.

The majority of bk lawyers will charge extra to do the conversion, a few won't.

Some lawyers will charge extra to deal with the judgment as well, some won't. It depends on the amount of time the lawyer anticipates needing to resolve the problem. The more lawyer time required, the higher the possibility you'll be asked to pay for those extra hours.

What did the contract you signed with your lawyer say about these situations?
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

The number of hours your lawyer works to resolve an adversary action is totally dependent on the type of adversary action, who brings it, and how strong your case is in that area. There is no consistent answer to give you.

                I lucked out!

Mine only charged $500.00 + the $299.00 filing fee. What made it even more of a bargain was that he did a super job!

These are good questions to ask the attorney before signing with him or giving a retainer.

I did not ask these questions, then went ahead and gave the retainer, before we even signed a contract - something which I wish I had not done. So I can only HOPE my attorney does not charge a lot for "extra services", and more so, I hope that we don't NEED any.
