Validation question after verbal settlement agreement.

I verbally agreed with Unifund collection agency to a settlement. I asked them to send me a letter stating they agreed to the amount payoff and then I would send them a check.

I never asked for a validation from them, but I want one now before I pay.

Is it too late now for them to validate the debt after we talked about a settlement already?

Did you already receive their letter? If not, call them back and request a validation. Unless they sent it registered/certified, and you signed for it, you can always stall them by claiming that you never received the letter. Mail does get lost.
By the way - when they called you/or you called them - was there a recording on that "this call may be monitored/recorded for training puposes"?
