    How can they do this?

To my huge , unpleasant surprise, I just notced that on my Equifax credit report all the 10 creditors that I filed my Chapter 7 on in July, 2004, have it reported as being filed in February 2006The "Public Record" indicates as having been filed on July 9, 2004, and the date of discharge being October 21.
Naturally I printed out these accounts, and a copy of the Public Records section, and will send a letter disputing the 2006 dates and asking them to correct these dates.
Data entry by Equifax or creditors lying their a... off??
    2 Chase cards
    2 Discover cards
    One Bank of America card
    One credit union auto loan
    One credit union credit card
    One Wells Fargo loan
    One Wamu/Providian card
    One First Premier card.

If not an Equifax data entry error - whoever did it must have been drunk or smoking something other than a cigarette, then all those creditors must be illegally re-aging the actual dates.

Bummer. This is why it's so important to check your credit reports once or twice a year to make certain the information being reported is accurate.

Although there's no proof at all, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that some creditors post incorrect information/dates as a way to punish filers after their discharge. It forces the filers to keep challenging the wrong data while the wrong data keeps filers from recovering as quickly as they could if the creditors reported correctly.

FICO scores are a system that depends on the creditors supplying accurate information. There's way too much misinformation on the reports to depend on them for decision-making.....but millions of companies and individuals do just that.

I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

    06/01/06 - Filed Ch 13
    06/28/06 - 341 Meeting
    07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections
10/05/06 - Hearing to resolve 2 trustee objections
01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
    09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made
    08/10/11 - DISCHARGED !

    10/02/11 - CASE CLOSED
Countdown: 60 months paid, 0 months to go

Sent a letter disputing the creditors' dates. Printed out the pages listing these accounts and the page listing the Public Notice.
Weird thing is that the wrong dates are only on Equifax, but not on TU or Experian. They reflect the right information.
