    Questionable Expenses

What exactly would be a questionable expence. Kids school fees, kids sports fees, Year book fees, Kids in general fees---where do they fit in?

If the fees are relatively small, it probably won't be an issue, but things like private school tuition might cause problems.

Coincidentially, in our BK we listed private school tuition as a monthly expense and you are right it was an expense our attorney thought might cause problems with the trustee. However, at our 341 the trustee asked us why we were filing, etc., and the reason for sending my son to a private school was a direct result of our reason for filing. After she listened to that explanation she seemed satisfied(at least according to our lawyer). We knew going in it might be an issue but we were very slightly optimistic the trustee would understand why. Actually, our attorney told us to answer only what was asked of us but I felt the trustee needed a more thorough explanation and in retrospect I am glad I did. Anyway if private school tuition is one of your expenses be prepared to defend it.

Given the State of Public Education, AMEN and incidentally it was one thing that caused us some serious financial belt tightening in our early years. In the end two things pay off, stay at home Moms and good private Education. They are worth the sacrifice if the parenting is good and moral.

I'll bet the Trustee's children are in private school.

I agree. I am 100% all about private school. I can't wait until vouchers are finally legalized. Maybe by the time I have children!

I bet her kids are too. The public schools here are the pits and the county schools are severely overcrowded. The education is suspect at best. We are very happy with the school our son attends. I had 3 brothers and a nephew who graduated from the same school. We have applied for financial aid and were turned down - we make too much money? We are, unfortunately, in the infamous middle class. Not poor enough and not wealthy enough. It is a financial struggle but we have good reasons to keep him in the school and he has thrived with nearly perfect grades. I can understand though why the trustee would question it but once she learned why she should have understood. Hopefully, she did. We are 36 days post 341...still praying and still crossing my fingers.

If you are 36 days post and haven't heard from the Trustee, no news is good news. I went to Oak Hill Day School and Battle Ground Academy in Nashville. We moved to Miami Beach in 1971 and I was put into the local Public School, Nautilus, a rodent hole of unbridled free expression and political correctness. I walked in, saw girls in jeans, psychodelic paintings on the wall (60's, 70's remember) and was in a culture shock that was what any foreign student would have endured. My slide began immediately as my parents overriding concern for more $$$$$ became increasingly evident.

What had been a good quality life in Nashville dissappeared. I hated public school and eagerly volunteered to live in Memphis with my Aunt and Uncle, back in the cove of decency. Now, I don't hate my parents for this. I love them and blame them for nothing, we're here because we all made colosal mistakes.

I say, keep the children in good private schools if you can, it is a much better environment and please don't preach the accolades of Public indoctrination and how it teaches "social skills". I and my sons have experienced Public and private and prefer private. I close off because i am getting away from the forum subject.
