In filling a chapter 7, do you need to be an immigrant or citizen of this country in order for you to file chapter 7? or is it regardless of your status?

My husband was only a greencard holder when we first looked into it with the lawyer. I think as long as your here legally its no issue at all. I met someone else at his office who only had a working permission card and had massive medical debt. He was free to proceed.

If you're a legal immigrant/green card, and SS card sure you can file. BUT - creditors who you included in your filing might float your name into the Homeland Security/Immigration system.Comment
