    ambulance charge

In May 07 i had chest pains and had an ambulance take me to the hospital. I have been unable to pay the bill (700.00) but i would like to. It now however has been turned over to a collection agency. I will be filing ch 7 in April 08. Morally I would like to pay them but hate to pay the collection ageny. called the ambulance service and they said payment had to go thrugh them. Attorney says the ambulance service wont get much of the money, probably .30 on the dollar from the ca but its my call. I am starting to get calls and the letters are just a little nastier. Can a cease and decist letter stop them? What are the chances of a law suit for 700? I dont have the 700 to give them all at once but maybe a little a month>..............???? Opinions please.

If you can hold them off, include it when you file and be done with it. You need to seperate emotions from this and look at it as a financial business decision. The only catch for you in this scenario is, (I'm assuming they are local) how easy and quickly they can sue you. If they're local they may very well come after you for $700.

i believe in pa they cannot garnish wages. if they sue what would happen? Any idea on how to hold them off until April? I wont be done paying my atty til then and dont know that i can come up with the money to file earlier based on my disp income.

If they can't garnish wages, they'll try and levy your bank account. If you get sued, go to a cash existence. Also, depending on state law, they may be able to place a kein against your home.

There's a good chance you won't be able to ditch these guys. Like was already said, they can come after your bank accounts for the money. Do like many others and live without a bank account until you file.

They have to sue you before they can levy a bank account.
I'd tell them to call your lawyer. It'll buy you some time.

April is only 5 months awsy. I think I'd let it ride and see what happens.

You know, several years ago I had a similar situation (although it was a surgery center rather than an ambulance). They said payment shad to be made to the collection agency.

I decided I never did any business with the CA and didn't owe them anything. I did business with the surgery center and owed them money. So I sent what I could each month - sometimes as little as $5 a month - directly to the surgery center.

Each month, I got a dunning notice from the CA, and each one showed the payments I was making. I don't know how much of it the surgery center got to keep, but at least I tried!

That's just throwing your money away. Once the debt changed hands you were giving the OC payments for a debt that didn't exist with them.
