Applying for a new job - is it okay?

    Good Morning Everyone,

Here is a question I would like some input on. My wife and I recently filed for Chapter 7 and have our 341 meeting in a couple of weeks. A new job opportunity has come up that I would like to apply for. It doesn't look like I would know anything concrete until after our 341 meeting. However, I'm sure that if I did get the job the start date would be during the 60 day waiting period before discharge.

Is this okay? I know BK is suppose to provide a "Fresh Start", but when is it legit to start working on that new "Fresh Start".

And do I need to tell the Trustee that I have applied for a new job during the 341?

And if I did get the new job and had to start during the 60 day waiting period for discharge would I have to report it to him?

    Thanks!

No expert but from what I have heard, as long as you don't get it before the 341 meeting.. because your trustee will ask what has changed and if you are working a new job, it may change your eligibility for ch 7 and may affect your schedules I and J. You will have to tell the trustee if you have a new job.
So, if your going to make a lot more, you might want to make sure you get the job after your 341 meeting but I don't think it will matter if it's during your 60 day waiting period - that's just a period for creditors to object... and they probably won't even know if you if get a new job.
Others will chime in and give more information but I had asked a similar question. I had gotten a job offer but in the end I couldn't take it because we don't have an extra car and couldn't afford daycare even if I had gotten the job.

Yes, it is recomeded that you wait until after your 341.

I wouldn't tell the Trustee if I was job shopping because a new job would not be definate at that point, so I wouldn't say a word.

I agree, don't mention that you are job hunting but if you do get the job before your meeting, you will have to say so or you'd be lying... and I don't want to see you in trouble for that.
