Someone please help me out. Got questions.

    Ok,

Not sure if I fooked up here or not.

About 6 months ago I lost my job and have had a terrible time finding one in this town. Finally just got one a month ago.

When I got fired we were up to our eyes in debt and now we are over our heads. Basically the credit card debt went from $8000 to almost $15000. We stopped making payments on them due to the fact we couldnt. It was like 26% on $4000 on some of them and just outrageous.

Heres where im not sure if we screwed up. We had open credit and went ahead and charged it out on stuff. Stuff like a new stove because ours broke and mostly neccessities. Only thing I can say wasnt a neccessity was a new couch. Also some was home improvement stuff.

So now my wife just talked to someone who tells her that we are screwed and possibly going to lose everything including that stove even.

I have been current on my house payments even though I did get behind I am up to date with them.

Vehicle payments have been good as well.

The house loan is for $36000 originally and we owe probabaly $32000 now.

Cars are about half paid off on one and the other is a year old and fairly new.

Please set my mind at ease and let me know what to do. Should I act now and declare bankruptcy? In my mind its the only way out of a huge mess as I am in.

Thanks and I love this site. You guys are great!

well nobody replied to this but heres what ive done.

Went today and talked to an attorney. The phone calls were getting out of hand and the wife and I are going nuts.

Lawyer tells me I should have not one problem whatever keeping everything I have.

Cant wait to start my life over and get everything back in order. Now that im older and wiser I have for sure learned my lesson on those FN credit cards and will never again.

Will hopefully have the actual bankruptcy declared in 2 weeks time he tells me.

Im happier than ever to get all this BS off my back that I have created.

Thank you to this great country for even giving me a right to do this.

Good for you consulting an attorney. We all could give you our experiences but it is always best to get a lawyers take on it. I wouldnt worry about what you bought even though you say the couch was necessary at that time it is still furniture and not a new boat. We are all here for basically the same reason although in different stages of the process but the end result hopefully will be the same. Make sure you provide all the receipts and transactions you have. It is no fun having to re-submit things like we are having to do. Good luck!
