i tried to open bank of america savings account today I got an email sayin my account is being processed. Is that a bad sign?

Did you try to open it "online", or did you walk into a branch? When you open an account online - like I did with Washington Mutual - I had to give them the usual info, name, dob, address, SS #. Then I was given the option of giving them authorization to deduct the opening deposit from any other account(s) /even a different bank -- or visit the closest branch and take in the money personally.
So their email is probably a timing thing - until they get the money for the opening deposit, either by them getting the funds from the other bank, or by you walking into the brach with the money - your account, as they say, is being processed.

Sounds like its being "processed" to me. Wait a see if you get another email.
