We need to tread lightly in the area of mentioning specific attorneys. This forum is really not about recommending or not recommending specific attorneys. Reason being (1) our members are quite geographically diverse, (2) any one members experience with an attorney is not likely representative of that attorneys expertise.
I liked the idea of selecting an attorney by looking at Court statistics. With the statistics you can see who's the big Bankruptcy Mills and the Chapter 13 pushers. You can also see who’s hardly representing any cases.
The best part is how it helps narrow the search for attorneys so you know who to visit. It doesn't say who's good and who's bad but it does give some impartial feedback that you couldn't get even by visiting them in person.
Too bad there's no budget for a crack programming staff here at the BK Forum. I was able to compile the statistics using public records for the area around San Antonio and I posted my results here. It took several hours worth of work but it wasn't rocket science either.
It would be super valuable if there was a way to compile the same statistics for all of the areas nation wide and make them available here. The other benefit is that it wouldn't be based on opinion or gossip and it would be less likely to get anyone in trouble for publicly bad-mouthing their attorney.
Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.
