Discharged debt counts as income?

My husband swears that he just heard on the radio that debt discharged in a bankruptcy is considered income for that year. That sounds preposterous to me but I thought I'd put it out there to see if any of you have heard such a thing.
Any thoughts?

Your husband misunderstood. A bk filing does not constitute forgiveness of debt thus, no 1099C.
Go to the IRS site and type 1099c and bankruptcy in the search function for a pretty good explanation.
