    banking

I recently moved to another state and had a checking account and a safe deposit box with a small local bank there. Would it send out a red flag if I close that account before I file? I really don't need it and I have to pay a monthly service fee. I figure I could save some money on the deposit for the box. I'm also wondering if they would send me the contents of the box upon closing the account? Not sure how that works. I don't think there's anything all that valuable in there, but I think my s.s. card may be in there and I'll be needing that. Any thoughts?

Moving is an acceptable reason to close an account. Just disclose it.
Only way to answer the other question is to call the bank and ask.

It won't matter. I closed 3 checking accounts prior to filing, just to get my affairs cleaned up and in some orderly fashion. Just make sure you have monthly statements to show that you didn't close the accounts as a way to shuffle money (hide) around.
