Orchard may even give you an unsecured card. Start with low balance and annual fee.

Digital Federal Credit Union has the best secured credit card I could find anywhere with reasonable interest rates and no up-front or annual fees.

DCU membership is open to members of the American Association of People with Disabilities and anyone can join AAPD for as little as $15.

Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.

The Orchard Bank reference to you by a previous poster is great; however, Orchard Bank, if they accept you, will only start you out at probably $300 or $500 limit. If you rent cars and travel, when I rent a car they put a $400 plus hold on the vehicle on your credit card and then there are the daily charges for the vehicle itself. If you have a $300 limit, it just will not work for that purpose.

Washington Mutual is another place to try to start. We obtained a Visa with them with a starting limit of $3,500 4 months after our Chapter 13 discharge. It has since been increased to $8,500. Of course we have a zero balance on it and use it only for car repairs or other misc. items as they occur, and pay it off immediately. You may want to try them also to see if you will be accepted and get a good starting limit to help you out with car rentals.
