LVNV Funding a question for the gurus

LVNV Funding has tried to serve me a summons I believe.

I Googled them and found out they are amongst the worst of the junk debt buyers.

I was not home when the sheriff came.

A letter came from a lawyer advising me that a case was filed by them against me.

Can they push ahead and secure a judgment even If they cannot locate me to serve me?

How can I fight it if I am outside the US with no immediate plans of returning?

Do you have a legal residence in the US? If you do, contact several bankruptcy lawyers in that area to set up free telephone consultations. They should be able to give you an idea of how to approach this situation.

If you have no US assets, aren't employed in the US, and have no intention of returning for a long time, then even if LVNV gets a judgment against you, what can they take? US courts have no jurisdiction outside the US.

If you do ever return, contact a US lawyer about six months before to sort out how to best deal with the mess then.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
