Saving money on return reciept mail

Yesterday I mailed off letters to 5 of my creditors who have continued to hassle me and send me bills despite being notified (in some times multiple times!) of my bankruptcy filing in Sept 07. I've been delaying sending them letters telling them that they are in violation of the automatic stay mainly because of the high cost of sending things certified mail with return receipt for proof that they were notified to cease collection efforts, but I finally decided to bite the bullet and spend the more than $5 per letter that it costs just so that if they keep up their unlawful efforts I might be able to bring a suit against them.

Anyhow, when I went to the post office, the teller told me about a product they have where you can get your return reciept electronically, and it saves you more than a dollar per item (total cost is now $3.91, $2.65 for sending it certified mail and $0.85 for the electronic return reciept.) So thought I would mention it here since everyone on this forum must have access to the internet/e-mail, and would be able to save over a dollar each time they have to send out return reciept requested mail, like I used to do with my trustee payments before they started to deduct them from my paycheck. It's real easy to use, you just wait a day after you mail the letter, then log into the usps.com website, select "track and confirm" and punch in the label number on your post office reciept, and it immediately tells you the status of your letter (in route, delivered, etc.) You then select "request return reciept (electronic)" and enter your e-mail address and it sends you an e-mail showing the signature of the person who signed for the letter, just like the little green cards you get from the post office. The lady said that if for some reason that doesn't work (it did for me) that you can go to the post office and they can print you a copy if you need it anytime for up to two years.

So anyhow, I know it's just a dollar saved, but if you send things return reciept requested often, you might want to give the electronic version a try.
