Pre BK Car questions.. help please.

So, still debating wether to go BK or not. Its leaning more on the yes side. Got a few car questions. I see alot of people on here doing different things when it comes to cars. Here is my question.

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram that gets terrible gas mileage, leaks fluid, needs tires, and only seats 2, and im upside down pretty good. Probably like 6k.

I do NOT want to reaffirm this truck. I have read some just give up the car before or after filing, some keep it, some trade it in, and read today some call and tell bank to come get it, then go get a new car the next day before filing.

I need a reliable car as I have to get to work, and have a 3 year old. I also need something with good mpg. I need something to seat 4 badly. I just dont know what to do Would it be wise to go get another car loan now? It just feels like i cant afford mine now, that going to get another new'ish car for like $400 a month would be unwise. But, apparently it might help me in my filing as it gives me more debt?

    Please advice. .

I can only answer your question on what I would do with your issues. First you seem to be easily moved to get a new car or truck. Next I would really look at what I need my car or truck to do. How many miles do I drive each month and how many seats do I really need. Do I need to haul things for my work? Can I use mass transit? With gasoline between $3 and $4 per gallon these is not much question on the direction gasoline is going. Next search Consumer Report for reliable ones with good gas mileage. Big trucks, unless you really need one are death to your transportation budget.
With this information you may find, I you are going to file BK anyway, please make sure first becasue filing without changing life-style issues will not cure anything.
Many perple will find a $2500 junker will help them get out of debt, and move ahead in your debt snowball.
    regards,
    emoney

Thanks!! Yeah, i really dont need another truck. I am looking at cars now. I know a lifestyle change is coming. I just want to make sure i get something reliable for my family before i file. That seems to be a favorite on these boards.

Just look at how much ($ value) of car you are allowed, depending on what state you live in...ex. in Florida, it's $1,000. If you own your vehicle outright here, they consider it an asset & take it. Or, you have to pay to keep it...be wise with the car issue.
