How far before I file chapter 7 should i do the counseling? I believe its only good for 6 months, but if i do it the day before the filing does that cause any problems?

Pa, most lawyers will recommend doing the pre-filing course at least a week before you file in case there's a problem getting your certificate. That way you have time to resolve the problem and it won't delay your filing.

Also be sure to take a pre-filing credit counseling course that's approved by your state - you can find a list of those courses here - http://www.usdoj.gov/ust/eo/bapcpa/ccde/cc_approved.htm

Thanks LPRN. Funny thing when i met my attorney in November he gave me info for www.freshstart.com to use for my counseling. I dont see them on the listing for PA......Guess I'll have to find another one that is approved.

We did ours right in our lawyers office while they were preparing all the paperwork. They had an account set up with them. We took the online class (about 30 min) and then talked with a counselor on speakerphone (about 10 min). We will also do the post 341 counseling with them too. All fees were already included with our lawyer fees and I cant remember what they were if on your own. The company's name is Hummingbird.
