Ok, I understand that I look like I am about 16 years old... HOWEVER, that does not give someone the right to walk all over me.

I went to the store to get some groceries this afternoon, and I bought a $1.00 lottery ticket for the mega millions drawing since it's getting up to $100 mil. When I went to the counter, instead of politely asking for my id, the girl behind the coutner says, "Are you even old enough for this?" When I politely said "Ma'am, I am 23 years old," she then asked, what is your birth date then? I told her, and then she finally asked me for my ID....

what GIVES?! Why didn't she just do that in the first place. Totally embarassed the hell out of me.........

People are just rude, plain and simple! You're right, she should have asked you for an ID from the start without her ridiculous commentary.

I've had similar things happen to me because I look young for my age (26 y/o and still get carded). One time at a work conference one of the attendees completely insulted me and asked if I was a teenager. I said no. She then asked if my employment was a result of a relative working for the organization. All this because I look young. I wanted to cram my college diploma where the sun doesn't shine. Wouldn't it have been easier to find out how old I am with less insulting questions?

Yep, people are stupid.

i work in a convienence store, and my line is always, can i see your id please? or a slight variation of that... another girl i work with says, your probably old enough, but can i see your id?

Of course, we try to be friendly and treat every customer with respect. not all gas stations/convienence stores are like that.

what irks me is when someone who has been 18 all of a month or two gets pissy about having to show his ID!

Give yourself another few years and you'll love it when they ask for ID! :D I know I do!! However, I'm 36 with a 15 year old son. What's embarassing is when people find out how old his is they inevitably state "You're not old enough to have a 15 year old. How old were you when you started??" I always reply "don't worry, I was legal."

Funny cause I don't look my age either & I also find it insulting because mainly I always get treated like I am a little kid. And I will be 29 in a few months but I was recently asked at work if I was the boss's daughter who is 15. I just said 15? A no but I wish I was LOL. I also have 3 kids my oldest is 11 & everyone always thinks she is my sister it really annoys her too. I suppose it has its advantages too.

Confrontation and challenge is the first way that some people communicate. Too bad. It is easier and less emotionally draining to simply ask a question. Some American sub-cultures and some American families learn to negotiate with their peers in this manner in order to survive. Bad again.

I'm 33 and and still get carded every now and then. It isn't an insult anymore, it is a compliment.

A couple of years ago, my wife was asked if she was a 'senior citizen' by the teenaged cashier at the drug store (for discount purposes)...she's still kind of p.o.'ed about that one.
