Obviously from the title you know what this thread is about, but up until I held the letter in my grubby little hands from the trustee I wouldn't believe it...
Oh wow...No way to describe the absolute feeling of freedom I have right now. Sure, we're still saddled with a 2nd mortgage (dumbest move we ever made, tried to consolidate "one last time" - I know, most of you here feel that pain as well), but for the first time in nearly a decade I can start to see a glint of light at the end of the tunnel. Granted, it's really darn dim, but I can see it!!!!!
It's so funny, my wife and I go out to dinner about once a year (if that) and it just so happens that we're going out to dinner tonight, and lo and behold, I get the letter from the trustee. GUESS WHO IS CELEBRATIN' TONIGHT!!!!!
Now of course, I have to bring some doubt with all this good news...We have received our discharge, that does not mean that our case is officially closed, right? I ask this because we still are supposed to surrender our stimulus check, and I want to make sure the trustee didn't have a change of heart (yeah right). So I'm guessing that we are discharged, but will get it closed once we remit our stimulus check to the trustee.
Also, when can we begin to rebuild our credit? Do we need to officially wait for our closing, or is it okay after the discharge? We must still have decent FICO scores (I'll check them soon), because we're still getting some very nice offers ($0 fee, 0% for one year, 9.9% after that). I don't want anything with more than a $500 limit, but we could use it to put things like the newspaper, gas, ect on and just pay it when it comes in.
WOO HOO!!!!!!!!
