I’m a serial lurker here but I’ve been reading the posts for quite a while. Late last year, after numerous attempts to move around debt from credit card to credit card combined with a good deal of denial, I came to the realization that I had to do something drastic to fix my debt problem. I contacted a couple of debt relief companies, which was a complete waste of time. Sure, they were able to lower my overall debt but my payments still put me in the red at month’s end. Thanks a lot.
So, I decided that bankruptcy was the only way out. I hired a wonderful, caring lawyer who guided me through the whole process. The hardest part of the whole thing was stopping all debt payments. The phone calls from credit card companies were not pleasant.
Other than the inevitable phone calls, everything went so incredibly smooth for me during this process. I didn’t meet the means test for a Chapter 7 but she told me to file anyway, given my high medical expenses each month. She fought for me and it worked. The 341 meeting was a breeze. I only had to send in an itemization of my monthly prescriptions and that’s it. No objections...no delays...nothing happened that caused me further stress.
Four days ago, I checked Pacer and saw I received my discharge. Yesterday, my case was closed. I am now debt free except for my car lease, which I reaffirmed. It’s a strange feeling. Sure, the relief is there but I’ve not been paying off debt for a few months now so I’m used to having no credit card bills. It’s just now the end of one part of my life is here and a new beginning has started. I will never again cheapen what I took for granted earlier. I still have a lot of work to do but I’m excited about it.
I found this forum as I was thinking about filing for bankruptcy. I never asked for help here because I seemed to always find the information I was looking for in other posts. It sure helped a lot. So, I’d just like to thank you all for the time you’ve put into helping everyone. It made the process a whole lot easier.
