    Collection Account

My Ch 7 bk discharged in 7/07. There is a collection agency that began reporting a debt that was discharged in the bk, after my discharge. I have disputed it with Equifax, but they are saying that they verified the debt. I guess I have two questions, one, how is a collection account supposed to report if the original debt was discharged and the second is, what is my next step? Thank you.

After you file all included accounts that weren't charged off or sold before filing should be listed as IIB with a balance of zero.

If the credit agency already said the creditor verified the information, next you have to go to the creditor. The next step is to send a letter certified return receipt with a copy of your bankruptcy discharge proving their debt was included in your bankruptcy. Don't use the telephone - you need to create a paper trail you can use for leverage if that proves necessary down the road.

Good luck! HOpe you get your credit report corrected soon.
