We filed CH 7 yesterday finally!! & questions

After struggling since August to pay off the lawyer and catch up to a point we felt safe to file, we finally FILED yesterday!

We were able to wait until after we got out stimulus & tax refund and spent them to make sure we were completely caught up on bills to file. The lawyer said this would not be a problem since we received both before filing. We have kept reciepts and a close record to show we spent it wisely.

We were about $15,000 under the limit for the means test, so I think all is safe there. We have no assets, so I am really hoping this will be a simple case.

The garnishment on hubby's check stopped yesterday also, so that saves $225 a week! Whew, what a relief! No more pay day loans to cover gas and food.

Our vehicle and a personal loan (both we are keeping and paying on) will be paid off in November and all we will have is utilities, living expenses and our house payment! Hopefully we can do some much needed work to our house then.

    Hubby's credit scores: 512 508 558
    My credit scores: 548 534 557
When should we start to see any improvement in these scores and our credit in general? Should I go ahead and start trying to correct the inaccurate things that show up on our reports or wait until most of them show as bk?

I'm wondering what we need to do now? Do we just sit back and wait, or is there something we should be doing to prepare for the next step in the process?

I know, I'm very impatient! I am just excited to be thinking about taking that big sigh of relief (and to be able to answer the phone again!!) I'm also nervous and scared we forgot something or did something wrong. Our lawyer has been great so far. I'll stop rambling now.

Thanks for all the wonderful support here, this has been such a great resource and knowing I can express my situation without having to be embarrased has made such a huge difference.

    Have a great day!

For now, sit back and relax. You just filed and your accounts on your CR will take some time to show IIB. You can always check your credt report though to see if any accounts in the past are reporting correctly.

Once you're discharged, you can check your credit report (again) and make sure all accounts that were included in your BK are showing as such. That's your first step. Then, with time (the best healer of your credit), you can start to rebuild your credit if you choose. Mainly, this will be with the use of small limit credit cards. Try to avoid the CC's with all of the fees if you can. Oh, and try not to get too over zealous and get 2 or 3 or 4 cards. Take baby steps.
