Our house was sold on July 5th at a foreclosure sale. Yesterday I got a call from my insurance company saying there had been a claim filed and they had my name and phone number. I told the guy the truth and that I have not been in the house for 3 months. Also I told my insurance compnay to cancel the homeowners policy well before this happened. I am sure the new owner is trying to get the house fixed up free of charge. Is this legal? Also I do not want this claim under my name. How can I prevent this?

I think I'd tell the insurance rep. they either need to make the check out to you,
or cancel the policy effective at the date of the sale.
Our house was foreclosed May 5, and I forgot to cancel my homeowner's insurance until about 3 weeks ago. They dated the cancellation back to the day of the foreclosure sale, and sent me a check for the unused premium. Becky
