What if I change jobs after I file?

Hi everyone. Let's say I walk into my attorney's office and file next week, and sometime after that, say a week or two later, I change my job. My income right now is VERY low ($1,000 a month) and at the new job it may increase to about $2,000 a month...HOWEVER that's still not gona be enough to support my debt ($45K) along with $800 rent every month...would this be a problem or no?

    Are you married or single?
What state are you in? Total number in your family?

It takes a month or so before your 341 meeting, so if you file and get an increase in income..it will happen before your 341. Which means you will have to let your attorney know this.

Thanks for that quick response. I'm single, in California, and no family...well I live with my girlfriend but no marriage or joint accounts.

From what I understood you basically meant to change jobs after the 341 meeting, which I guess afterwards I won't need to disclose additional information about that. I can understand if you don't want to emphasize on that, either way thank you _very_ much. I need to file ASAP.

        I live in SoCal.

The median for 1 earner in California is $46,814. Is the 1k per month gross or net?

Is your 45k debt just credit cards?

My attorney told me that I should wait until after the 341, so we can use only my hubby's income.

I'm single in Cali and have an average of $2300 net per month. I way below the median and qualify for CH7. I'm currently in process of changing careers and hopefully within the next three months have a new job.

At our 341 this past Tuesday the Trustee spoke to everyone at the begining of the meeting. Sort of a general speech. Everything he said was about what a person owned or made on the day of filing.

Every case is different though and so is every Trustee. Your best bet would be to talk to your attorney as he/she will know best. I would guess though if your still under on everything then you will be fine.

The means test uses gross not net.

If you change jobs between the filing date and the 341 when the Trustee asks, Have there been any changes? You will have to answer yes. Then tell about the new job and its income. The Trustee can use totality of the situation against you. It is advised that you wait until after the 341 meeting to obtain a new job.

well damn I sure hope this works out - I have been working for $1,000 a month for like 7 months now. I just got my insurance licenses and can start making a bit more money, but probably not close to the Median income, yet. Would it bite me in the ass if I said I was unemployed at my 341 meeting? I would technically be in between 2 jobs at that time....I'm not trying to commit a crime, I'm 24 years old trying to get my life started and leave the past behind.

and yes the $45K is mostly all credit cards and line of credit. oh and I got a foreclosed home too, but not in the $45K obviously.
