Can't include housekeeping and personal care items on Sch J?

Where do you put your housekeeping and personal care items on your shedule J? I was told that food, clothing and laundry can't be above $683 for food, clothing, housekeeping and personal care but that is just the standard amount for food and clothing. Was told that housekeeping and personal care are supposed to be included in the food, clothing and laundry catagories. Where do I include the housekeeping supplies-we rent, and the personal care items? What about the other misceleanous things like gifts?

Food, clothing and laundry aren't in the same category, they have their own.

Your sentence was confusing about the 683$, but I think you are saying that was the max for your area?

    I also rent.

      Are you doing this pro-se?

My schedule J had a place for laundry . I dont have it here in front of me but I clearly recall those lines because we spend so much with such a large family for laundry.

$683 would be the total for the 3 catagories. Those are national standards.

        From the IRS website:
        Expense - Two Persons
        Food - $528
        Housekeeping supplies - $60
        Apparel & services - $155
        Personal care products & services - $53
        Miscellaneous - $165
        Total - $961

So where do the rest go?

No we are not pro-se. This is the best of the 4 lawyers we interviewed.

Do you have anything in Misc?

Are you over the amount of 683$?

Yes, we are. We spend about $600 for just food. I had weight loss surgery 2 years ago and need to eat a high protein diet so it costs us more than normal. This is with me trying to buy as cheaply as possible. I am also spending a lot on clothes as nothing fits from last year, even my shoes are too big now.

                So our figures are about:
                Food - $600
                Clothing - $150
                Laundry - $50
                Housekeeping - $40
                Personal Items - $60
                Other - $100

                Total - $1000

Just over the standard of $961 but I can only take the $683 for food, clothing and laundry and nothing for anything else. Where does everything else go? Can I even take it on the Sch J?

The IRS guidelines are guidelines. You can include all the money you spend for food, but you need to have receipts and a good justification. I'm sure a note from one of your doctors about your surgery and your eating requirements would help here.

I'm a household of one, and the IRS guidelines suggest something like $58 a month for health spending. Hell, I pay one of my therapists $100 a month. (I think this therapist is spectacularly incompetent, and I have no rapport with her, and it looks like I'll need to go outside of my health insurance network to someone more expensive.) I see another addiction specialist (extremely competent) three times a year for $450 total, prorated about $38 a month. I saw my psychiatrist twice this month for a total of $50 alone. I take multiple prescription meds and OTC meds. I'm in a 12-step group with dues that add up each month (I go to about 5 to 7 meetings a week). Then there's dental and optometrist expenses, general practioner expenses. I'm going to be WAY OVER $58, and I anticipate putting every last dime of this on my Schedule J.

But I'm going to need to document all of this and probably get notes from all of these folks about my various conditions. By the way you got any car expenses? Car payments? Gas? Repairs? Transportation expenses? Parking? Rent? You've left a lot off your list.
