    Sneaky little debt collectors...

I think I've spoken to most of them already, may be a couple of stragglers left here and there. We are filing on Monday (wahoo!) and I'm just not picking up the phone now, figure they'll all know soon enough. Just got a call a minute ago, I had turned the volume down on the ans machine because I don't want the kids overhearing anything (Cap One likes to play that recording, most others just hang up..don't know if my 9 yr old has any idea why C-1 has so many "courtesy messages" for daddy, haha) Anyways, I hear this very faint background sound of "please call to discuss" and then suddenly this very friendly voice saying "Martha?" in a very sing-song-y voice you might use if you were calling your best friend to see if she was around!! Sneaky little you-know-whats! They aren't my friends, that's for sure..I almost fell for it, too--if not for that sound in the background. HA!

yeah, I've heard that tactic attempted on voicemail several times... or if a male voice answers they might be all singsong and casual, "hey, is Monica home?" luckily if he has happened to answer some # that shows toll free or unknown on the caller ID, he knows he had better ask who it is before ever giving me the phone... even then they might be like, "oh, it's Suzy" or whatever, of course I hiss to him, "I don't know a damn Suzy, hang up the phone!" then he has fun with them. they think they're slick!

My favorite was the one (I think it was Chase or BOfA) who would call with the smooth jazz in the background and then they'd say my first name, "Hello? Pa??" I almost fell for it the first time but after the 3rd time I used to laugh about it.

Surely they don't think it's going to work, if it didn't work the first time!
