listed as consumer Deceased but I am not

I checked my credit report and on 2 of my Capital One Credit card Accounts I am listed as Consumer Deceased. Well I am not or I wouldn't be writing this. The accounts are charged off Account closed by credit grantor. Does not say anything is in collection or that account was sold. I this something good or bad. My father had the same name and middle initial and last name as me accept I go by Jr. at end. He is deceased. If a account is not sold or in collection is this good. last payment was 08/2004 I live in pa I think SOL for credit cards are 6 years?

I think you know what you have to do and shoud have already done it. You need to contact the CRA reporting someone else's information on your credit report and dispute the information.

You say I should contact the CRA and report that it is not my debt and dispute it, but it is my account not my dads. Would it be better to leave it alone, if they think I am deceased, they will not try and collect. If I dispute it will that start them to try and collect. I never told anyone I was deceased, or had anyone tell them I was. All my other accounts are not listed this way.

Don’t you just hate when that happens? My ex-wife started to bounce checks like crazy and she had money in the bank. She went to the bank to find out what happened and three people stood up, white faced and almost faint. Ma’am, you are dead, they stated and your account is closed. This is not a joke now, as in the obituaries her actual name spelled correctly as well as age and town was printed. The bank assumed and closed her account. Then gave her a hard time reversing the NSF charges and returns. She insisted the bank write letters to all people whose checks were not honored. She said you people should check into this in the future as my SS number is not that person’s. Very coincidental but true. ‘Hub

Unless you want a lot of credit issues in the future with lots of cans of worms, it's best you have your account cleaned up. But it's your life if you want to masquarade as your deceased father and your own decision - best of luck!
