Buying a car using cash before discharge?

Right now we have a honda accord that we are surrendering in our chapter 7 case. We have continued to drive it until they come get it, but today the alternator went on it, and we do not want to pay to have it fixed, since they are going to take it anyways. So now we need another car. We have managed to scrape together 5K from friends and am wondering if we can go pay $5K cash for a car (no financing) before we receive a discharge. Will the trustee have an issue with us buying a replacement car before the discharge, if there is no financing involved?

So long as you are not taking on new debt it should be fine. Discuss with your lawyer first.

According to my attorney: if you aquire any assest before discharge, you have to inform trustee.
