Questions about filing chapter 7

First, what is your source of income now? Part of your petition will require you to show how you meet your basic living expenses. If you've been meeting them with credit cards since your employment ended, that won't be a viable option after BK and the trustee is going to want to know how you're going to live after your debt is discharged. If you are being supported by someone else (e.g., your mother), you will have to disclose how much is being given to you each month as income and show how the money is spent.
Second, did you obtain a credit card by listing an income that you did not have on an application (paper or internet)? If so, a creditor could object to your discharge, allege fraud and the UST could become involved (a very bad thing if the creditor has documentation). If you did an application over the phone, it would seem less likely that a creditor would figure this out.
Lastly, do not select an attorney from the yellow pages. I did just that and fought tooth and nail to prevent my case from being dismissed from the day we filed to the day we were discharged. Meet with at least three attorneys, explain your situation (and be absolutely honest no matter how difficult this is) and listen to what each of them has to say. Do not assume that the attorney who tells you everything will be fine is right... continue to ask questions here and to research potential problems before you file. There is a common misconception that all one needs to do is provide the attorney with documentation and let them handle everything else. The more you know before you file the better your outcome will be.
Good luck!
