The cell phone companies are notorious for locking you into multi-year contracts, and features, and all that overhead, that you won't realize until you all of a sudden get a $500.00+ cell phone bill that you did not expect.
My advice is to go to Wal*Mart and get a Boost Mobile phone. A nice flip-up costs now about $50.00 and comes with a starter $10.00 card. It also has the Direct Connect peepers that 'Hub and I want. There are other companies that offer pay-up-front services.
Anyway, our allowance is $20.00 per phone; that is $40.00 per month for us. Now we use these things only to keep in contact with each other in case of emergency. If you plan to use the cell phone as your PRIMARY contact point, instead of a land line, this may not be an option for you.
Just a suggestion. Good luck."To go bravely forward is to invite a miracle."

Virgin Mobile rocks if you are NOT a talker. If you just need the phone for necessities or emergencies then the plans are great and you can get by at 20.00 (or even 15.00 if you let them direct debit) for three months and the balance rolls over. There is even a 30 day grace for the rollover.Originally posted by twuoo View PostI believe virgin mobile has the cheapest rates that last the longest time.
Or go with metro pcs if it's available.
I love my virgin mobile plan (and there is no contract) but if I were to use it everyday, the rate per minute would actually be kinda high so it really depends on your needs.

We have at&t family plan. My DH is a talker so minute phones don't work for us, it got way to expensive. We have 450 min. free rollover, free nights and weekends, free mobile to mobile and it cost us $65 monthly. Much cheaper then minute phone was. I had a cell phone we just added DH. We have had the first phone for 12+ yrs. Started as Cingular, now at&t. It is a 2 yr contract. We have been in a contract on the first phone for 12+ yrs, so that didn't matter to us and the price is right. And the phones are free every 2 yrs. I get a new phone in a year!! I'm a "tracphone" person myself. I only use it as an emergency phone and travel with me phone. Do not use it for idle chit chat.....
For $99 a year (sometimes cheaper at Christmas) I get 4 hours+ talking time, nationwide service, a new phone every so often (as they upgrade).
Averages costing me $8.25 a month...... no contracts and I pay for it once a year at $99. Every year I have roll-over minutes. Plus I have call waiting, voice mail, etc.
Perfect for someone like me who "just wants to have the convenience of a cell phone with me all the time", but use my home phone for all my daily chit chat!
Besides, it's TOO DANGEROUS to drive down the road with a phone at your ear!!!!!
I could never live with myself if I killed someone while I was driving and talking on the phone.......................Minny

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
