The "counseling" course that is required post-filing pre-discharge is the most boring useless piece of crap that I've ever listened to. Was there anything in that 2003 legislation that said "we need to HURT those that are filing any way we can, including audibly?"

When I went through it, after I listed all my debts and interest rates on my loans, they told me there was no way I could do a consolidation program because (get this)...

My interest rates were better than they could negotiate!!

Go figure. It cost me $50 for that advise, which I had already known beforehand.

I was told the same thing even before I was considering BK! Basically, they *advised* me that BK would be my only other option (besides getting a 2nd job).

Mine wasn't bad at all either, about 15 minutes, at the end of which he said "yes, you need to file BK because we can't help you".

My first one was long and painful then we did the second one on the computer....much easier!!

Both of mine were done thru the internet.

They both pretty much covered the same territory. Nothing particularly new brom one to the other.

My first one was via telephone, took 45 minutes. My second one was on the net, had to do it twice once for me and once for my hubby(deployed). It was long and easy.

Well....maybe I'm just having a unique experience.

Mine is through Hananwill(online), it's all audio, one guy talking in a monotone over a Powerpoint presentation that's been turned in to flash. There's absolutely, positively, nothing useful in this thing. Did you know that money causes stress with relationships? Or that a budget is required to make it after a bankruptcy? ::sigh:: /sarcasm.


On an even better note: if your computer crashes, like mine did, it doesn't save your place. I was almost done with the stupid thing, and now we have to go back through it again.

I agree. It was actually funny and fun.

This is about the only part about the bk reform that helps the debtor. The debtor needs all the help she/he can get to prevent a future bk.

I actually went to a credit counselor before deciding to file BK. I sat in with her for an hour and a half for her to tell us our interest rates were better than what they could offer on about half of my debt and I would actually pay back more a month in their program when I was already maxxed. The worst part: I have to sit through that again pre-filing and then post-filing. She wouldnt let us just pay her the $50.00 for sitting through with her.

I did the same thing. Spent over an hour for her to tell me she coudn't do better. At the time, I wasn't late on anything so my rates were decent. I even tried being proactive with the bank, but they said they couldn't talk to me about changing my terms till I was late. Talk about a catch 22.
