Just got off the phone with Ca.State Bar Association

I told them about the attorney that I did hire and paid him 200 cash and a check for 175 (which I stopped payment on). He wouldnt return my calls (actually his paralegal is the one I've talked to on the phone). I saw this man once for the free consoltation. He only gave me bad advice which could of landed me in jail. I felt very uncomfortable with the lack of communication from the very start and the bad advice ( which I've learned on here and from other attorneys).
I've called and called and faxed a letter terminating the agreement and asked for my money back that was mid Aug. no nothing. He did nothing for me at all. So the nice man on the phone told me to file a complaint.
I called again this am. and will call again tomorrow telling him I am about to file a complaint (giving him a chance to do the right thing and give me my 200back.). If I dont get a call I'll file.
I need this money more than he does.

Good for you!!! I hope the turkey ends up doing the right thing. If not, go for it!

Wow. That's a little harsh. Do you have experience being placed in jail for not paying an attorney?

First off, I dont like paying for something that would put my well being in jeapody. I trusted him, big mistake. I would also think the guy dodged a bullet. From what I've been told, if I had gone thru with it and got into trouble we both would be put in jail for not disclosing assets.(His advice) Out of about 10 or more phone calls I got a whopping 3 returned. Why would I be in trouble? I think if anyone is in trouble, its him, not me.

You are not going to jail for stopping a payment on a attorney's check. He needs to take you to court and you will get a first appearance hearing and you will get a chance to explain what happened. The fact that you reported him, showed that you have guts and are not afraid of him. Good for you.

Dude, you paid the attorney $200, that doesn't buy you anything. That is just a deposit, he is under no obligation to be at your beckon call at that point.

And your statement that you received advice that could have landed you in jail is an exaggeration. Lets be honest here. This guy may be a poor attorney, but come on.
