Need Corporate Address For Att Universal

Having the same problem with ATT Universal card as had with Chase. My father, now deceased, was primary on card. I sent death certificate and called to say close account. Was told I am a joint user, asked for proof, received letter saying account too old to send me original application BUT that they say it has been joint account all along and it is my problem if I did not know that. I continue to say I never signed anything and am an authorized user - nothing else. Am now receiving really nasty calls. I would like to write to whoever in corporate but so far have only found post office box number in S.D. When I first said I was not a joint card holder and asked to remove from credit report they did so. Please help with any ideas and address I can write to. Thank you.

Please help. ATT Universal calling every hour all day from 8am to 9pm. I do not answer. I have written to post office box in South Dakota and have not received recent reply. I don't want to pay if I am not joint card holder and I never did sign to be joint cardholder but am so stressed out over this.

ATT Universal is part of Chase. They are the same entity.

The reason they won't send you a copy of the original application is because they know you are not really a co-signer on the credit card. There is no way they can win in court if you fight this. They probably know this, and won't bother suing you over it.

They did the very same thing to a few members of my family. The person who applied for the card died and then they claimed that a certain family member was a co-signer on the account and went after her relentlessly. She never co-signed for the card and she sent them a letter stating that by certified mail. They are still calling her on the phone demanding that she pay it. She said she no longer answers the phone when they call, and she is just going to wait until they sue and then at that time she will make a motion for discovery to demand to see the original application in court. To see who really signed for it.

This is just my guess, but I personally believe this is just a scare tactic to try to frighten her into paying the debt. They know she is not legally responsible for it. They know she never co-signed it, but they don't care. They will keep calling trying to get her to pay it until enough time has passed and they will then sell it to a junk debt buyer. I doubt they will ever take this matter to court because they know they will lose.

My advice to you, is just sit back and wait to see if they ever actually sue over it. Don't answer their phone calls anymore. Don't give them any information. Eventually they will reach a point where they will charge off the debt as uncollectible and sell it to a junk debt buyer.

My other advice is don't send them anything with your signature on it. They might copy it to the old application.

As far as addresses, there should be a correspondence address listed on the billing statement. Send the letter, without any signature, to that address by certified mail. It won't stop them from calling you, because my relative did this, and they still call her anyways. Chase/ATT Universal don't respect the FDCPA in this matter. They feel they are the original creditor and it doesn't apply to them and they won't voluntarily cease and desist like some other original creditors do.

      The world's simplest C & D Letter:
"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."
Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.

ATT Universal used to be Citicorp, at least a couple years ago when I stopped paying mine. Didn't know they had changed banks.

Not that there is any difference between Chase and CITI; they both can be pests until they sell off your debt.

AT&T is not chase... Its it still Citibank. I have a universal card that I stopped paying last week... Get a call from Citi Card at least once a day on that account.

Yeah, no difference at all. "Pests" is too mild of a word describing them. The word descrbing them also begins with the letter "P" second letter "R".

I agree with GoingDown, don't sign anything with your signature.
I recently helped a friend out with an almost similar situation. We didn't use her address and I sign the letter (my scribble). I don't trust any of these people so why give them any little bit of information so they can twist to their liking.

As for them not able to produce the original application: tell them if they can not produce it, then if they keep up the phone calls it is harrassment. I would send them a letter stating that. If you do have to go before a judge, that letter would explain a lot to the judge at what is going on.

Oops! I looked at the billing statement for the ATT Universal card for the deceased relative and I made a mistake. They are a part of Citibank, not Chase.

They are currently using a corrupt collection agency called West Asset Management to attempt to collect the debt from a relative.

One thing I have learned from this experience of a deceased relative's debts is this... never give the debt collector any information about yourself. If there is a probate for the estate, give them that information only (which is mainly the court case number and the name and phone number of the attorney or executor). But never give them any personal information about yourself. They always ask for your name and then they will try to use that against you and start claiming that you owe the debt as a co-signer, even if it's not true.

The best thing to do is just hang up whenever they call. They feed off of any information you give them.

I am still getting phone calls and bills and collection letters re this account. I have written them 5 times saying either provide proof I signed for this account or leave me alone. Today I got a next day UPS telling me if I make a qualified payment I may be eligible for a reduction of the APR but this is a limited time opportunity. Any suggestions what else I might do to have them leave me alone?

Don't make the qualified payment, if you do, they will claim you acknowledged the debt.

Have you pulled your credit reports to see if they are reporting this to the credit bureaus?

It seems they are getting desperate. Continue asking for proof and never acknowledge the debt. They are trying to trick you.
