paid bill showing up on credit report as still not closed

So we paid a 12k bill in full that my father had taken out in my moms name 2 years ago...and we paid it through my checking account through a electronic check (over the phone)-and now her recent credit reports say that it is still sold to a collection agency and not paid... I dont know what to do? bec the month we did pay the bill my parents moved and things went crazy so we never received a certificate of payment from the collection agency. and I just thought it was done so I never looked into it any further but now I'm scared they'll come after us and say we didnt pay it. I'm wondering bec it was CHASE-and my father has another joint unpaid account with her name on it with chase is that why it isnt shown as paid on the credit report? because she has another account that is not paid yet? I hope someone can help me with this because I am seriously about to burst

First thing to do is to check your bank account statement. It should show the amount and to who it was to. It should also show the date. An electronic check still has a number attached to it as well.
