Well, I gave all 457 pages of documents to our BK attorney this morning with a cover letter telling him that we would like to file as soon as possible.
I actually now told some of the creditors and most were surprisingly very understanding ( Chase ).
A couple of collection agencies try to scare you by saying that your case may be dismissed, it will ruin your credit etc.
I for one feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and while I know it is just the start of the journey taking the first step and turning everything in with no turning back is important.
I also went to my mediation today with the contractor in the mechanic's lien situation and had he been a bit nicer, fairer and actually completed his work and his attorney not such an arrogant a** from the start I might have actually negotiated something.
I told them I was filing BK and thanks to this forum I was thoroughly prepared when his attorney tried to throw a few curves regarding unsecured debt, exemptions, the different chapters etc.
He did not even know the exemptions in California and he did not know the time frame for a 13 payback.
Heck, I felt like a law professor in there.
In any event he is out of luck and I can put his file away in storage and stop obsessing.
First step taken, now the waiting begins. At least the calls will stop.
Thanks to all of you.
